Turkey Announces substantial increase in tariffs on American products
Turkey said Friday it would raise tariffs on some U.S. imports, including cars, alcohol and rice, among them 120 for cars and 140 for alcoholic beverages, according to the Associated Press. Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had just announced a boycott of American electronics. A diplomatic clash broke out between the United States and Turkey over the arrest of American cleric Brunson. U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Twitter that he had decided to double the tax on steel and aluminium in Turkey, causing the Turkish lira to plummet.
